The WORSE hotel I have stayed in 45 years
Please READ CAREFULLY before making a reservation in this hotel. I booked my travel package in November 2016 and we arrived to the Real Salamanca Townhouse on February 20th 2017 for a full week, prior to our arrival I contacted the hotel 5 times from November to February. We were going to arrive at 5:00 AM with 2 little girls and I asked the manager O.V. to please ensure we had a room available for early check-in, the girls were going to be exhausted and I needed to put at least the baby to bed. I told O.V. I would pay whatever was necessary for the early check-in, we agreed on 400 MX pesos. During the 5 conversations we had with him and other staff, they assured us there was no problem with our request. I wrongly assumed that with 5 phone calls O.V. would have understood the importance of my request. He also promised he would leave a hair dryer in our room as I requested politely. My last conversation with him 2 days prior to our trip made me feel confident we were not going to have any issues. (“Ahorita, tantito yo dejo una nota para que tengan todo listo”) Hotel staff also told us 3 weeks prior to arrival that the hotel had a washer machine (free to use if you bring your soap) but that the dryer for clothes was broken and that they were “waiting for the part”. I asked them about the dryer on my last call (February 18th) and they were still waiting for the part… Upon arrival to the hotel we entered the management “office”, I immediately noticed the poor condition of the furniture and how dirty everything was, if this was the “welcoming room” I couldn’t imagine the rest... The person managing the hotel at that time had no idea that we were arriving so early. There was no room ready and he claimed we could sit in the couch in the office and wait there until 1 pm. He attempted to convince us that there was nothing he could do. I almost lost it as I was holding my baby in my arms who was exhausted from a 7 hour trip. Given the circumstances I told him that it was unacceptable and demanded a room, I asked him to contact the general manager and he did (so he woke up O.V. who was at home sleeping). After a few minutes on the phone he told us that there was one room (not the one we booked and paid) but that was dirty and that room service wasn’t going to arrive until 10 am. I insisted and after 10 min fighting and discussing things with O.V. over the phone he proceeded to remove the dirty towels and sheets in the vacant room #5 and placed us there for a couple of hours. If I wouldn’t have stood to my ground we would have been with the girls in the office for 8 hours. And let me explain you something: the office was a disgusting and TINY. Once we arrived to our room #11, we noticed there was no microwave, my husband went down to the previous room #5 and took the microwave himself and installed it in our room. We had paid for a room with full kitchen. Our room main door lock was broken, there were several lights in the room with no lightbulbs, walls had humidity stains, cabinets, walls and furniture were chipped and banged. Towels were completely ragged. Intense damp odor in the room. During our stay the toilet was broken for 3 days. We had to insert our hands in the tank to be able to flush. They didn’t have a maintenance person or at least we never saw one in the entire week. For 24 hours we didn’t have TV service and you could read in the TV screen “Servicio suspendido por impago” = Service Interrupted for nonpayment. I notified the main office and that following evening we had TV again. Common areas had stains on stairs during the entire 6 days we were there. At any moment we saw any staff cleaning, sweeping, mopping those common areas… Staff claims the building is “national patrimony” and for so they can’t make any changes to the structure, however what we are discussing here are basic cleaning and REPAIRS. All the professional photos that you see in their website were probably taken 5-8 ago. The common area chairs are completely destroyed, ragged and loaded with stains. Mattresses, chair in room and towels also were loaded with stains. Lastly, on our last day as we were departing, we spoke with F. (the only staff who really tried to make us feel comfortable but unfortunately with zero decision authority) and we proposed the hotel a partial refund (such us the cost of 1 night) in compensation for the huge amount of issues we had. She explained that O.V. the manager would have to decide on that. We waited for 48 hours to hear from O.V. , we were astonished that he didn’t even take the time to contact us to apologize. I proceeded to call O.V. from Boston two days after our arrival. He acknowledged the toilet, main door lock, microwave, promised hair dryer (never to be found), TV cable unavailable but basically told us to suck it up and justified every single incident. As of today, we haven’t receive one single apology (which probably will come via social media after this post to cover their backs) I proceeded to inform him that I will place a complaint in writing at the Secretary of Tourism in Mexico City. He replied “I don’t care”. We have photos to back up all our claims stated above. This was in my 45 years the worse hotel I have ever been. These people are basically milking the place, taking the revenue and investing ZERO in it.
